250 attendees gain insights from experts Wayne Eckerson, Rick van der Lans, Claudia Imhoff; hear data virtualization use cases from Comcast, Franklin Templeton and Pearson

SAN MATEO, Calif. — October 18, 2012 Composite Software announced today that executives from AT&T, Chevron, Franklin Templeton Investments and Pfizer were honored in recognition of their data virtualization implementation successes at the third annual Composite Software’s Data Virtualization Day held October 10.

Michael J. McNab, senior VP, Global Marketing Services for Franklin Templeton Investments received the “High Impact” award.  Recognized for the breadth and depth of data virtualization’s impact on Franklin Templeton’s business, McNab said Franklin Templeton has achieved incredible successes with its data virtualization program and the extension of web services. Speed-to-market improvements, efficiencies managing databases, elimination of duplicate data stores, superior project-to-budget and project-to-schedule performance are examples of these impacts.

The Data Virtualization Leadership Award for “Innovative Solutions” was given to Anestacio Rios, project lead, Business & Engineering Application Support for Chevron. This award recognizes innovation in executing demanding data integration projects. Rios deployed the Composite Data Virtualization Platform to successfully migrate critical systems ahead of schedule and with lower risk.  By virtually masking migrated systems, Rios’ team at Chevron minimized disruption, delivered results sooner (30-month project completed in 18 months) and saved significant project costs.

John Yovanovich, director of Data Strategy and Support for AT&T won the “Rethinking Data Management” award.  This award recognized Yovanovich’s work in utilizing data virtualization to accelerate the consolidation of AT&T’s data warehouses and hundreds of marts.  Using Composite Software, projects now take as little as 30 days and in one four-month period the company delivered six projects.

Long time Composite Software and data virtualization pioneer Dr. Michael Linhares, PhD and research fellow with Pfizer Pharma Sciences was recognized with the “Data Virtualization Champion” award.  This award is given to an individual who consistently achieves and promotes data virtualization’s value across his organization and in the broader scope of data integration.  Recognized as one of the world’s leading champions of data virtualization, Linhares has helped change how his company integrates data, has provided best practice advice to other firms, written numerous journal articles and spoken at industry conferences.

Data Virtualization Day, the world’s largest gathering of data virtualization experts and implementers, drew more than 250 attendees to New York City where they heard from industry experts and authors Rick van der Lans, Wayne Eckerson and Claudia Imhoff, as well as enterprise data virtualization use cases and best practices from Comcast, Franklin Templeton and Pearson.
