Bloor Group Introduces Information Oriented Architecture Technological Road Map

Groundbreaking research study recognizes Composite Software and data virtualization’s ability to automatically and efficiently build caches of data to satisfy user demands

SAN MATEO, Calif. — May 9, 2011 — Composite Software, the data virtualization performance leader, today announced the availability of a groundbreaking Bloor Group white paper, web report series and technological road map poster on Enabling the Agile Business with an Information Oriented Architecture, co-sponsored by Composite Software and available as part of the Data Virtualization Leadership Series™,a forum for groundbreaking white papers, articles and webcasts by leading IT industry analysts and advanced data virtualization practitioners.

The Bloor Group designed the Information Oriented Architecture (IOA), the data-oriented companion to a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), as an aid for organizations seeking to modernize their information architectures to meet today’s data-centric environments.  According to Dr. Robin Bloor, principal analyst with the Bloor Group who authored the study, the need for an effective architecture to manage business intelligence (BI) and BI–related applications has become obvious in recent years.

“The dream of a single data warehouse satisfying all data needs is thankfully long dead,” Dr. Bloor said.  “However the demand for data services and data integration has not evaporated. Indeed, it has grown to the extent that satisfying this demand with point–to–point data flows is becoming impractical. This more than anything else has established the need for an IOA.”

The new research study and associated white paper offers insights about the technologies that exist, including data virtualization solutions, to design, launch and maintain an IOA as well as those that enable the kind of self-service BI that pundits for years have touted as the Holy Grail of informatics.

“With the prevalence of data virtualization and data federation, the IOA is being managed in a new way,” said Dr. Bloor.  “These technologies along with change data capture (DC) provide very lightweight solutions. Now that you don’t have to move huge amounts of data around the enterprise, why would you?  The more you move it around, the more trouble you have. The IOA was created to help users get a handle on data architecture and the technologies involved and capabilities such as data virtualization are central to an IOA.”

In support of the new research study, the Bloor Group will host a Briefing Room on Tuesday, May 10 at 4pm ET entitled Five Ways to Use an Enterprise Data Layer featuring industry consultant William McKnight of McKnight Consulting Group and Robert Eve, executive vice president of Marketing, Composite Software.  McKnight, author of 90 Days to Success in Consulting, will be briefed by Composite Software’s Eve, who will describe customer deployments of recurring data virtualization usage patterns.  The two will discuss how to determine when and where to use an Enterprise Data Layer, as well as offer counsel on how to:

“We are honored to co-sponsor this much needed research in the area of modernizing information infrastructures and delighted with the key role data virtualization plays in enabling BI agility,” said Robert Eve, executive vice president of Marketing for Composite Software.
