webMethods to Resell Composite Software Information Server
Faifax, Va. and San Mateo, Calif. - October 27, 2003 - webMethods, Inc. (Nasdaq: WEBM), the industry’s first Web services infrastructure company, and Composite Software today announced that webMethods will license and resell Composite Software’s Enterprise Information Integration (EII) offering, the Composite Information Server. As a result of the agreement, webMethods is the first vendor to sell a comprehensive Web services infrastructure solution that combines enterprise application integration (EAI), EII and Web services. The companies will also undertake joint marketing and sales activities.
EII solutions connect business users and applications to critical business information from multiple disparate sources as if it exists in a single location. By reselling the Composite Information Server, webMethods extends the comprehensive capabilities of its integration solutions by giving its customers an additional ability to compose information applications such as dashboards. Information applications enable enterprises to more easily pull together Composite Views(TM) of customers, orders or risk from databases, Web services, enterprise applications, flat files and directories. As a result, customers can improve their decision-making process and increase the control and value of their information across the enterprise.
“Leave-and-layer integration strategies should be used in conjunction with rip-and-replace, wrapping and re-engineering where appropriate,” said Roy Schulte, vice president and research fellow, Gartner Inc. “The integration application layer will gradually become quite sophisticated to be able to fulfill the new requirements of the enterprise business strategy. EII involves dynamic data integration, generally composing virtual views of data in real-time and often with intelligent caching of data.”
webMethods plans to resell the Composite Information Server to its growing customer base of more than 1,000 enterprises that are already leveraging webMethods’ comprehensive integration capabilities. Composite Software’s Information Server provides enhanced access to enterprise data through Composite Views of the information needed, no matter what formats the information is in and where it resides within the internal and external corporate network.
“We see a strong demand for end-to-end integration solutions that address an increasing proportion of enterprise needs, including Composite Views of their enterprise data” said Jim Mackay, senior vice president, webMethods, Inc. “By partnering with Composite Software, the technology leader in EII, webMethods is able to resell a solution that not only complements our current product offerings, but that also adds great value to our customers.”
“There’s a compelling need to combine Web services, EAI and EII into an integrated solution,” said Jim Green, CEO of Composite Software. “EII is emerging as a category distinct from traditional EAI. While EAI enables process automation, EII enables business insight by providing more powerful data aggregation and integration capabilities for federated data sources. The webMethods solution with the Composite Information Server will enable automated processes to access Composite Views of critical business information drawn from multiple systems.”
Jim Green, Composite Software’s CEO will be speaking at webMethods’ upcoming annual user conference, Integration World 2003 to be held in Orlando, Florida from October 28 through October 30. Mr. Green will be presenting the definition of the EII marketplace and explain the benefits of an integrated solution comprised of Web services, EII and business integration.
As part of the agreement announced today, webMethods and Composite Software will cooperate in appropriate sales situations to ensure that customers receive the solution that represents the best fit for their enterprise needs.
