Informatica Unleashes Integration Thunderbolts
Intelligent Enterprise
In October, Informatica rolled out PowerCenter 8, an extensive upgrade of its data integration software platform. PowerCenter 8, will add data federation, thanks to a technology agreement with Composite Software, a provider of enterprise information integration (EII) tools. This addition makes Informatica relevant for a wider variety of enterprise integration problems, including operational BI and performance management that may not require a persistent data store (such as a data warehouse).
Composite Information Server 3.6 Released
Intelligent Enterprise
Composite Software has released Composite Information Server (CIS) 3.6. CIS 3.6 gives enterprises faster and broader access to data stored in disparate locations and applications by accelerating query response times and extending EII's benefits to more users. CIS 3.6 introduces a new modeling wizard that allows developers to support effectively the growing number of XML-based applications. Until now, constructing XML data from raw sources for use in dashboards or views was difficult and time consuming, slowing adoption of real-time XML-based applications.
Integrating Enterprise Information: Myth or Reality?
Intelligent Enterprise
Enterprise Information Integration (EII) has faced the "unproven-technology" bias over the past few years. But skepticism about EII is misguided, and a clearer understanding of it can help eliminate the fear, uncertainty and doubt that may be feeding IT's resistance.

White Paper: The Explosion in Enterprise Metadata - Implications for Reporting and Business Intelligence Projects. This white paper examines the growth in awareness, variety, and volume of enterprise metadata, the opportunity for corporate metadata repository initiatives, and the challenges for success in those initiatives. In addition, more tactical, departmental components of the IT infrastructure now require their own built-in, special-purpose metadata capabilities; BI and reporting is examined specifically. Corporate and BI metadata use cases, however, diverge in their requirements and are not necessarily served by the same tools and processes.
